May picks

I wanted to share my picks for May with my lovely followers…

Bec & Bridge palazzo tank here
I’m so in love with this print. It would look great with a crisp white blazer, white jeans, stacked bangles and coloured sandals. This top makes me want to jet off to Morocco!

Topshop 2 part hi sandals here
This heel ticks all the boxes- with a supportive heel strap, the perfect height and the combination of the white and black, it really does make these statement heels an investment piece.

Bassike scoop v neck tshirt
When it comes to staple pieces, I don’t like to spend a lot of money, but I am so in love with my white Bassike tee. It is a high quality piece that with care will last you a long time. I like to pair my tee with skinny jeans, ballet flats and a cross body bag for a chic, low key daytime look. Invest in this piece… you won’t regret it.

Sheike Eden dress here
I really love the cut of this dress. It’s so perfect for a garden wedding or a high tea party.

House of Harlow gold pendant here
Love. Enough said.

Country Road wool twill scarf here
Add some colour to your outfit with this tomato red scarf… hello pick me up!

MNG zipped jacket here
Such a versatile piece. Pair it with sleek black pants for work, a pencil skirt for a fancy dinner or skinny jeans for a date.

Lush sexy peel soap here
This soap is on high rotation in my shower right now. It has such a yummy, orange scent!

MAC pro long wear lipcreme

Rebecca Minkoff Dylan tote here
I’ll be having dreams about this bag tonight. Love!

Travel adventures

I’ve spent the last month travelling quite a bit, so apologies for the late post! Here are some highlights from a cheeky break to Sydney, Australia last week…

Sydney Opera House

Bondi Beach, Sydney Australia

Darling Harbour, Sydney

Such an amazing sunset!

Check back for my picks for May… coming soon! xox

Jac + Jack

When the cold weather kicks in, there is nothing better than curling up on the couch with a good movie and a glass of wine. Here’s the thing though- when it comes to what to wear when you’re curled up on the couch, I’m always the one who wishes I was in trackies (track suit pants), when in fact I’m in jeans. Not to say that there’s anything wrong with them, but I’ve always associated trackies for sleeping. The solution that I have found to this conundrum is the luxe Australian brand Jac + Jack…

Foods with benefits

I really believe that you are what you eat. What you put in your body really makes a difference. There are specific foods you can have to boost your skin, hair and nails, and some that just make you feel good!

Instead of spending money on expensive creams when my skin isn’t at it’s best, I go straight to the seafood aisle of the supermarket. Try and get wild salmon if you can as it contains more nutrients than farm salmon. Salmon does have an acquired taste so I season mine with olive oil, sea salt and pepper to disguise the fishy taste. Salmon contains Omega 3’s which help your skin, strengthens hair and nails- trust me, you will notice the difference if you have a piece of salmon 3 times a week.

Olive oil
High in antioxidants, low in bad cholesterol and gentle on the digestive system, I use olive oil on salads (the best salad dressing I’ve found is lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper mixed together), pasta (with pieces of salmon and cooked spinach), pizza (drizzle this onto the base instead of tomato sauce) and baking (I use olive oil instead of vegetable or canola oil in cakes and muffins).

Spinach contains Omega 3 fatty acids which helps boost skin health, bone health, joint health and bowel health. I love to make a salad with spinach and kale (high in iron, antioxidants and vitamins), red capsicum and feta (high in protein and calcium) with the above salad dressing recipe of lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper.

More than any beauty product on the market, I love making masks from foods.

Face mask
My favourite mask to make only has two ingredients: 2 teaspoons of cocoa and 2 teaspoons of greek yoghurt. Mix them together and slather onto your skin. Leave for ten minutes and wipe away before cleansing. Cocoa contains high amount of antioxidants- 3 times more than the amount found in green tea!

When I want a cheap facial, I cleanse before rubbing olive oil on my face, wetting a face washer with warm water and lying down for ten minutes with the face washer covering my face. This process helps the olive oil absorb even faster, which gives your skin a huge moisture hit. I do this once a week.

I love a good exfoliator, and this one is so good for your skin. Mix a tablespoon of ground coffee with 2 tablespoons of natural greek yoghurt and scrub your skin gently. Coffee contains antioxidants and reduces puffiness.

For pimples and dry skin
Olive oil- it might sound weird putting an oil onto oily skin, but here’s the thing- oil is more readily absorbed by the skin than lotions and topical creams. If you are putting this on a pimple, rub a small amount of olive oil onto the affected area and leave for ten minutes. Lightly cleanse your face afterwards. I use olive oil on areas of dry skin too. I like to put my feet in a bowl of warm water with 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Leave for ten minutes, wash and dry. If you have a special occasion and a pimple decides to rear it’s head (it’s always the way), grab an ice cube and rub it over the affected area for 5 minutes. This will calm the pimple down.

Oh, and once I’ve done the above to make me feel great in the skin I am in, I like to end it with a slice of cheesecake!

A personal message

To my lovely followers,

I’ve been quiet the last few weeks, so big apologies to you all! I’ve recently come up against what seems like a huge obstacle to overcome. As much as you can be positive, there are times where you can doubt yourself, through no fault of your own.

The following mantras have really helped me recently, so I hope you can adopt them too:

– Never let anyone walk over you (figuratively speaking of course!). Don’t let anyone take advantage of your time, kindness or generosity. There’s a huge difference in doing something for others to not getting anything in return and being taken advantage of.

– Do something for yourself every day. Go for a run, listen to music, take a bubble bath, read a magazine, take a yoga class- anything that makes you happy. If you’re like me, you put other people first, so don’t forget to think about yourself!

– No one has the right to make you feel worthless, small or incompetent. How dare someone else make you question your self worth.

Let’s help each other to feel powerful, smart and important.

Much love xox

It’s competition time!!!

I often get colour inspiration from flowers, so why not incorporate one of the below colours into your outfit. Perhaps a bright lip, a silk scarf or a floral skirt?

Flowers bring my inner gypsy out. Today I’m rocking a wavy, free look by:

separate hair into 4 sections

plait each section, use a hair tie and hairspray all over the plaits

leave your hair in the plaits for 30 minutes (or however long you have before you head out!)

take out the hair ties and separate the plaits

use a sea salt spray. I like Lush’s sea salt spray. It doesn’t weigh your hair down and it smells amazing

and finally, use some more hairspray for extra hold

And voila- similar waves to the gorgeous Kate Hudson below!

Sash & CO

This week I caught up with the amazing Sarah from the online boutique Sash & CO. Her sharp eye for fashion has made a huge splash in the online shopping scene since starting her store last year. I sat down with the creative and bubbly director of Sash & CO to find out her take on fashion, how the industry is changing and what makes her feel confident. Read through to find out The Normal Fashionista’s exciting news!

1. If you could choose one piece from Sash & Co’s online store, what would it be? What would you team this piece with? I would choose the finders keepers ‘you sent me dress’ matched with my nine west nude platform heels – perfect for a birthday, wedding or any exciting occasion!

2. Have you always had a love of fashion?Yes I loved fashion since I was a little girl. I had jelly glitter sandals when I was five and never took them off!

3. What made you decide to start on Sash & CO? Since I was a little girl, i have always wanted to own a boutique, but I put my dream aside and studied criminal justice at university instead. I missed fashion too much and so I decided and to start Sash & CO. The online fashion scene is huge right now.

4. Describe your fashion style in 3 words
class, bold and beautiful

5. What fashion piece gives you an instant boost? I love wearing an item that stands out from the whole outfit. For instance- the Mimco rose gold choker is a life saver. It brings class to an outfit! I am not a shoe or accessory person- I am definitely a clothing person. I love eye catching styles and uniqueness.

6. What colour makes you feel confident when wearing it?
I love a variety of colours. All colours can give a splash, but it is style and boldness that brings out the confidence and the stand out!

7. How do you choose which fashion designers and pieces you would like to offer to Sash & CO clients?
I selected the designers of styles that I personally loved. I choose pieces that stand out, that are simple yet sexy and are practical for most females. I am also learning along the way about the style, material and quality of a good designer’s pieces. It is a very interesting process!

8. Describe your office –
I love my office! It has lots of character and style.
The Sash & CO theme is Black and Yellow. My garments are all packaged in black tissue paper and tapered with a neon yellow ‘Sash and Co’ sticker. I love the idea of every client receiving their item beautifully packaged and presented – like receiving a gift!

9. You recently had a baby, has this changed your style at all?
Yes I learned so much from my little one- he even picks styles and items out too! My little one has definitely changed me to be more open, calm, and easy, so it has affected my taste on clothes and styles. I used to like wearing safe fashion items – simple black and white. Now I have my own style, mixing prints or patterns and colours- i now can’t live without it! So yes, he has changed my wardrobe, my style and made my life full!

10. Your customer service is wonderful. Is this important to you? Excellent Customer service is of utmost importance. My whole business revolves around that. I understand the online business – having been a big online shopper myself, I understand the big risk of purchasing something that you haven’t tried on. We want to satisfy our clients and always ensure descriptive item information and photos from all angles to try and give our clients the best possible idea about what they are buying. I have had so much wonderful feedback from clients about our prompt service and about the website.
Referrals and return customers says it all. But we are always learning and improving because fashion never sleeps!

Check out Sash & CO’s website to find amazing and unique pieces!
